MY TEACHING METAPHOR

My teaching metaphor

My teaching philosophy is based on my beliefs and my assumptions about learning. In my personal teaching methapor, I view teaching to be engaging and well structured. I have been going through different experiences which have helped me change in many aspects. When I started teaching I adopted a traditional methodology. With the pass of the time I've been shaping my teaching practices. Now, I am more open minded. In my classes, I encourage a respectful environment in which the students' opinions and ideas are welcomed. Also, music, games and technology take important part in my EFL lessons. Sometimes I tend to focus a lot on grammar and textbooks. What is more, I am a very strict teacher who enforces rules and discipline....sometimes bossy and moody, but I am doing my best on being a better person and teacher every day.

  1. Dear Marolly,
I firmly believe that we (as teachers) are responsible for giving the magic of what we do in class. Besides, I think you are a resourceful teacher and that is really amazing. Therefore, it is grateful to move from traditional method to one in which students feel motivated in learning. I want to ask you the following: How do you handle those situations in which students do not want to learn? Thanks in advance for sharing your insights!

    2. Hi Anita, that's an interesting question. Well, as you know motivation on students can be extrinsic or intrinsic. What I usually do when one of my students doesn't want to learn is to find out the reason. Based on that, I start applying strategies and activities which are appeling to him, which fit his interests and learning styles and proficiency level. Thanks for commenting on my blog!

  2. Dear mate,
From your teaching metaphor, I can see that you are so conscious of who you are. This an important starting point toward your goals as an EFL teacher. Which ability, technique or skill would you like to add to your teaching repertoire? and why?

    1. Dear Sergio. Thanks for your comment! I'd like to add more creativity to my teaching repertoire because despite the fact that I consider myself as a resourceful teacher, I'm totally convinced that I need more creativity to inject in my lessons.
